December 2, 2001 was a wet dreary day, but for the bikers who braved
the rain, it was a very bright day indeed. Thanks to the all of you for
making this event a success once again. As you can see from the pictures,
the Houston Area Corvette Club also joined us to share their Christmas
with the children at Boy's & Girl's Country.
Twas the first Sunday of December
'Twas the first Sunday of December
And for the 22nd year in a row,
The San Jacinto High Rollers
Were getting their bikes ready to go.
They were polishing the chrome
And soaping down the leather.
Keeping their fingers crossed
In hopes of good weather.
The Head Elf knew
It was time to get organized.
So, he called for Santa
With excitement in his eyes.
"Gas up your bike Santa.
Bring a thousand elves or more.
Let the great city of Houston
Hear your mighty Harley roar.
No teams of reindeer
To pull your sleigh.
You're going in style;
You're going all the way."
For this wasn't any ordinary ride;
This was a special one.
It was time to spread the joy of Christmas,
for the Boys and Girls Country Toy Run.
So the elves showed up
From all walks of life.
There were bankers and laborers,
Husbands and Wives.
Sisters and brothers,
Even a grandparent or two,
Contractors, lawyers,
A fixer of shoes.
Musicians, artists,
A guy who built a bridge,
And, of course,
The club president, R. D. Ethridge.
They had a common goal,
It was easy to see.
They came with love
To spread a message of Peace.
So, they mounted their bikes
And rode through the weather
Heck, it didn't matter,
They were decked out in leather.
They came riding in
Right through the gate.
They were in a hurry;
The kids couldn't wait.
There they hung on the fence,
Screaming and Cheering
For they knew that Santa
Would soon be nearing.
When he drove in to the gym
It made such a noise.
But that was soon forgotten
When they saw all the toys.
He passed them out
Calling each child by name.
Sharing his message,
For every child it was the same.
"Open your hearts
To those all around,
And like the roar of a motorcycle
Love will resound."
And so with smiles on our faces
Responding to your call,
We say, "Thank You to each of you
And Merry Christmas to All!"
